Marie–Anne began playing music at the age of 11 in a local fanfare (brass band). Very soon she realized that this passion would become her profession. After graduating high school and completing a bachelor’s degree in social work, she went to study music at the Conservatory of Brussels. There she had jazz trumpet lessons with Richard Rousselet and Laurent Blondiau, and classical trumpet lessons with Manu Mellaerts. She also attended several international workshops, where she met and played with Paolo Fresu, Enrico Rava, Jeremy Pelt, Avishai Cohen, Kenny Wheeler, not to mention Claudio Roditi.
Marie–Anne is very active as a trumpeter in a diverse range of musical styles. Jazz, in the broadest sense of the term, is her biggest passion, but she also feels a strong affinity to pop, rock, funk, world and Latin music, among others. She can and will play in any style, as long as there is a good groove and deep emotion in the music.
In addition to giving concerts, Marie–Anne also has a passion for teaching jazz trumpet, small ensembles and big band at the music school of Ghent, and at the conservatories of Kortrijk and Lille (Fr).
